France Télévisions, France's leading media outlet, and YouTube have entered into a strategic partnership to increase access to public service content and combat misinformation.
As part of France Télévisions’ ‘streaming first’ strategy, this alliance will ensure that the editorial excellence of its news programmes reaches audiences wherever they are and on any device. The partnership will result in an enriched content offering, with thousands of hours of programming made available online each year, shortly after linear broadcast.
With the most powerful newsroom in the European Union, France Télévisions is the French public’s leading source of news and the country’s top producer of quality news content. Meanwhile, news consumption on YouTube is booming, with over half of users turning to the platform for information.
Against this backdrop, France Télévisions and YouTube are joining forces to accelerate the discovery, consumption and reach of France Télévisions’ news content across all platforms.
The partnership will include:
- the availability of all national and local news broadcasts; all of the Group’s flagship daily and weekly current affairs and investigative magazines, which are extremely popular with audiences.
- enhanced editorial curation of content by France Télévisions on YouTube through curated and organised channels by programme and theme, as well as original, 100% native content to offer an enriching and engaging viewing experience for all;
- increased protection against misinformation and manipulated content. YouTube will facilitate the adoption of Likeness ID, its tool for detecting AI-generated content that uses the image or identity of public figures without their consent.
Finally, this partnership will enable France Télévisions to leverage its YouTube presence more effectively. France TV Publicité will directly commercialise its inventory on the platform, giving it the operational flexibility needed to optimise the value of its catalogue.
This collaboration is based on the clear vision that the future of broadcasting revolves around streaming. (This collaboration reflects a clear ambition: the future of broadcasting is streaming-led.) As part of France Télévisions’ ‘streaming first’ strategy, YouTube — which has 43 million monthly users in France — serves as a platform to expand the reach of programmes and drive growth by engaging new audiences. France Télévisions and YouTube are delighted to increase exposure of high-quality content for all.
This strategic partnership with YouTube accelerates France Télévisions’ “streaming first” strategy. In an ultra-competitive video landscape, and in the face of the French public’s growing exposure to misinformation (and as French audiences face growing exposure to misinformation), it strengthens the reach of France Télévisions’ news content among all audiences, including those furthest removed from traditional media.
We are proud of this strategic partnership with France Télévisions and are convinced that YouTube and public service broadcasters complement each other perfectly. We are committed to supporting the ambitions of the France Télévisions group by leveraging our technology for news and amplifying its reach.
