The Digital Department of France Télévisions, together with the Sports Department, publishes a new Immersive Social Space test dedicated to Roland-Garros and the world of Stade 2.

  1. For this 2022 edition of the RG Lab, in partnership with the French Tennis Federation, the Digital Department of France Télévisions wishes to go further in the experiments conducted on immersive social spaces. Thus, the virtual studio of Stade 2, available on VRChat, will be set up for the fortnight in the Roland-Garros Stadium, next to the Philippe-Chatrier Court. This will be an opportunity for the Innovation Department and the editorial teams of France Télévisions’ Sports Department to test new digital formats that will enliven this virtual world and the social networks.

This space, which will be available for free on virtual reality headsets (1) and on PCs via the VRChat social VR platform, will allow users to visit, with their friends, in their own avatar, various emblematic places of Roland Garros and the virtual studio of Stade 2.

It will also allow you to participate in sports, games and cultural activities:

    • Playing tennis against an opponent on the Philippe-Chatrier Court,
    • Training the tennis game in solo mode on the Outside Courts,
    • Visiting the Roland-Garros Museum in partnership with Infosys3,
    • Watching content on the Place des Mousquetaires,
    • Daily content hosted by journalists from the Sports Department .

The purpose of this new test, centered around social and immersive components, is to continue imagining the digital formats of tomorrow that could be produced within this kind of virtual world by the editorial teams of the Sports Department of France Télévisions.

It should allow us to measure the interest of our audiences for these new formats in order to orientate our digital content offer.

It is also an opportunity for France Télévisions to test new 100% digital production methods and new show formats within a virtual world to reach new, younger audiences.

This world was developed by the company VRrOOm and the Digital Innovation Department of France Télévisions by integrating the virtual studio of Stade 2 used on air. It is available on the VRChat platform under the name « Stade 2 – Roland-Garros » (2).

    – A world open to the public that will allow platform users to visit part of the Roland-Garros stadium, the Stade 2 virtual studio, and to take part in the various activities offered in this world and discuss the latest news about the tournament,

    – A private world reserved for FTV, which will allow France Télévisions’ editorial teams to test the production of new formats for testing and publication on digital networks.

    1. This immersive world is available for PC VR headsets, Meta Quest 1 and 2, and PC desktop.
