France 2 – 34.2 million french people watched the 2022 Six Nations Championship

Longtime broadcaster of the event, France Télévisions offered exclusive live coverage of the 15 matches of the 2022 Six Nations Championship from February 5 to March 19.

This year’s exceptional tournament, marked by the epic win by the French national team, captured the hearts of the French people, as 34.2 million* viewers (59% of the population) tuned in, an all-time record.  

France Télévisions is proud to have been able to contribute to the reach of this major event, through unprecedented mobilization and an exceptional operation set up on its premium channel France 2 with, this year in particular, the airing of two of the French team’s matches during prime time, including the decisive meeting with England.

For the final round of the competition on Saturday, March 19, France Télévisions deployed a major operation with an entire day (2:00 p.m. to 11:15 p.m.) devoted to the Championship, attracting 19.4 million* French viewers.

From 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., France 2 mobilized its airwaves through numerous events, with the two matches of the day Wales vs. Italy and Ireland vs. Scotland, but also with “Une si longue attente” (Such a long wait), a new 52′ immersive documentary on the French national team. This special broadcast attracted 8.9 million* viewers.

At the end of the day, the public gathered in large numbers at 9:00 p.m. to watch the long-awaited France vs. England match. Viewership went up to 10.5 million to ring in the French national team’s victory.

– The France vs. England match attracted nearly 9 million viewers for a 38.9% audience share, the best ratings ever for a Six Nations match.

– This match achieved the best audience, all programs combined, on France Télévisions this season.

– The five French national team matches attracted an average of 6.6 million viewers for a 38.1% audience share.

– The matches not including the French team attracted an average of 2.1 million viewers (18.3% audience share) reaching a total of 23.1 million* viewers, the highest in 10 years.
